The fully automatic series of SFM stretch formers has been developed for stretch forming can bodies to meet the steadily increasing demands for higher output. The machines are based on the same principle as the well-known and proven types of single and dual head stretch forming machines of the AFM series.
With the models SFM-1 and SFM-2 the bodies are transported from the infeed chutes, through a side seam locating station into the stretch forming tools and from here to a mechanical star wheel ejection system. In the side seam locating station the seam is located by means of a servo motor and the can is rotated to the correct position prior to the stretch forming process. The design and the operating mode of the models SFM-11 and SFM-22 are identical with the SFM-1 and SFM-2, however, do not have a side seam locating station. These stretch formers are available with up to 6 tooling stations.
The FM machine is a semi-automatic stretch forming machine suitable for production of all kinds of expanded cans. The cross-section of the can body may be irregular, square, rectangular, oval, pear-shaped or round (for pails or drums), with or without beads and panelling. The sides of the expanded body may be parallel or conical. The tooling is mounted in a vertical slide system and connected to the hydraulic system with bayonet coupling, providing for an easy and fast change-over from one can size to another. Due to the very short change-over time the FM machine is well suited for small scale production or as a supplement to avoid changing more over complicated automatic equipment by smaller series.
The AFM stretch formers are designed for automatic forming of conical or cylindrical, and soldered or welded bodies. The body can be formed to rectangular, oval or pear-shaped cross-sections, depending on the tooling mounted in the machine. The AFM machine is designed with two stations. In the first station the cylindrical body is seam-controlled, i. e. the seam is always placed in right position in relation to the cross-section of the body or decoration, if any. The seam can be placed 360° along the whole circumference of the body. In the second station a tooling is mounted. This tooling makes the design of the body. The design and the operating mode of the models AFMK are identical with the AFMR, however, do not have a side seam locating station.These stretch formers are available as single or dual-head version.
