LeoLED2

LeoLED2
Innovation

LeoLED2 takes LED performance to new heights over GEW’s already highly-acclaimed, water-cooled LeoLED system. Offering a 55 per cent increase in electrical power (147W / cm), a 50 per cent increase in UV dose (300mJ / cm2) and a 45 per cent increase in UV irradiance (44W / cm2) compared to its predecessor, LeoLED2 is GEW’s next generation UV LED curing system that guarantees the best performance on the market for the most challenging curing applications.

As with the generation one model, LeoLED2 is available in both a cassette version and a compact version, depending on the requirements of the customer, their equipment and their application. Both models are designed to interchange with every current arc lamp model in GEW’s range. This patented ArcLED technology gives ultimate flexibility on press, no matter the application.

E4C

E4C

E4C offers the highest power available from the GEW range, to support the most demanding UV curing applications and the fastest printing speeds on web or sheetfed machines. It performs to the harshest cure test procedures and is suitable for low migration applications.

E4C has optically tuned reflectors to maximise curing power and operates quietly, with minimal air requirements. Water flow monitoring technology ensures water flow at all times, and the E4C’s water-cooled reflectors support the highest UV power whilst limiting heat transfer to the substrate, making it safe for a broad range of heat-sensitive materials.

It is designed to operate with the lowest level of maintenance and is engineered for fast, easy lamp changes. All replaceable components are plug-and-play, and the reflectors can be cleaned and fully replaced without breaking the water seals. Furthermore, the reflector mechanisms and seals are tested to millions of operations to ensure reliability.

E4C is also LED-ready: its hybrid lamp casing can house either LED, E2C or E4C arc lamp cassettes. It has a compact profile to fit the widest range of machines and is retrofittable on all E2C installations.

It is also available with multi-point UV monitoring and inert gas curing options.

NUVA2

NUVA2

NUVA2 is the most effective UV curing system for wide web coating and specialist industrial applications. Fully air-cooled up to 250cm and available up to 27kW total lamp power, NUVA2 is available with a wide range of customisation and integration options.

GEW’s patented reflectors are actively cooled to ensure that heat transfer to the substrate is minimised, whilst delivering the highest UV intensity and dose available. The quick-change cassette design ensures fast lamp changes with only 1 hex key tool required and the innovative spherical lamp ends prevent breakages on long lamp changes.

Reliability is guaranteed and when powered by GEW’s RHINO system, NUVA2 can be purchased with a 5 year warranty which means no unplanned maintenance costs well beyond the return on investment period.

NUVA2 is ArcLED ready so that a NUVA2 and LeoLED cassette can be used interchangeably in the same print unit and existing NUVA2 systems can be cost-effectively upgraded in the field with only the LED cassette and chiller required.

GEW to focus on UV and UV LED innovations at Metpack

GEW to focus on UV and UV LED innovations at Metpack

UK-based curing systems manufacturer GEW will feature its conventional UV Arc solution, NUVA2, alongside its latest, state-of-the-art UV LED system, LeoLED2, at Metpack. Both curing systems offer safer, faster and more profitable production than conventional thermal drying systems, and are robustly manufactured for ultimate reliability and performance.

GEW will also highlight its patented ‘ArcLED’ technology, which enables UV Arc and LED cassettes to be quickly and easily interchanged on the production line, for supreme flexibility. Both models are compatible with the same power supply and fit in the same housing.

Established in 1991, GEW has decades of experience in the design and manufacture of turnkey metal decorating systems, both for OEM and retrofitted installations. The traditional solution for metal decorating applications has been GEW’s renowned NUVA2 system. However, UV LED technology is now transforming the market through its superb efficiency and numerous production benefits. GEW’s LeoLED2 takes LED performance to a new level: it delivers electrical power of up to 147W/cm, UV dose of 300mJ/cm² and UV irradiance of 44W/cm².

The advantages of UV LED are compelling: LeoLED2 typically delivers energy savings of over 65% when compared to a conventional UV Arc system. It creates a cooler operating environment, produces no VOCs, and eliminates the need for mercury Arc lamps. LED also offers superb reliability in the UV curing process, to deliver excellent production efficiency, minimal downtime, and the highest quality product.

GEW has produced a customer case study about the benefits of UV LED curing for metal decorators, which can be viewed on the GEW website, here: https://www.gewuv.com/coleus-takes-the-lead-in-metal-crown-printing-with-uv-led/

Company profile

GEW (EC) Limited designs and manufactures Arc and UV LED curing systems for printing, coating and converting applications. The company is the leading manufacturer of UV systems for metal decorating applications, label and narrow web printing, sheetfed and web offset for commercial printing and packaging, as well as the wood finishing market.

GEW's UV systems are available for all new machinery, and can be retrofitted to any active press, allowing printers to breathe new life into older printing equipment. GEW has a world-class production facility at its UK headquarters, subsidiaries in the USA & Germany, and an extensive list of worldwide distributors.

GEW specializes in the design and installation of UV LED systems, having introduced its latest UV LED product for the metal decorating market, LeoLED2, in early 2024. Representing the next generation for UV LED curing, LeoLED2 offers improved electrical power, UV dose and UV irradiance specifications compared to its first-generation predecessor, and it remains compatible with GEW's patented interchangeable ArcLED system.

LeoLED2 also introduces two power level options to GEW's acclaimed water-cooled system. The regular power option offers modest gains over the original LeoLED, while maintaining backward compatibility. The high-power option, however, brings game-changing increases in UV irradiance and dose over its predecessor, delivering unprecedented performance for the most extreme curing challenges across the most demanding curing applications.
