To support the high-speed removal of steel or aluminium scrap from cupping presses, body maker trimmers and reject can collection points. Impact Air Systems
provide robust, efficient and cost effective scrap handling systems, which convey the waste material to centralised collection areas for baling and recycling.
Features include: Product collection hoppers or telescopic extraction nozzles, oil mist separation, chopper fan, specially adapted high durability ductwork, advanced screen separators and baler feed weigh hoppers and even fully automated robot bale handling.
To contain and remove the highly explosive internal can lacquer powder, Impact Air Systems supply bespoke extraction systems incorporating explosion rated ductwork, reverse jet filters fitted with ATEX compliant explosion relief panels and rotary
discharge valves.
This is then backed up by a secondary two stage absolute filter unit to give a cleaning efficiency of
over 99.99%.
The strong fumes generated by the cans as they travel between the lacquer sprayers and the IBO create an uncomfortable working environment.
By installing an enclosure around the conveyor and connecting it to an extraction system, the fumes are contained and exhausted safely to atmosphere.
Impact Air Systems have developed a range of extraction systems and filtration equipment tailored specifically for base coaters, printers and over-varnishing units.
These incorporate custom designed stainless steel capture hoods, pre-separators, two stage filters and high efficiency inverter controlled extract fans linked to pressure monitoring devices to ensure optimum extraction rates are maintained for the life of the
filter medium.

Global can scrap extraction and fume extraction experts, Impact Air Systems Ltd, have recently been awarded contracts with can making giants Ball Packaging at its production facilities in Wakefield and France.
The scrap conveying and bale handling contract has been awarded to Impact once again, for its innovative and practical approach, providing a fully automated turn key solution, efficiently collecting and pneumatically conveying trim from the cupping press and body maker trimmers, whole reject production spoilage and delivering it to two hydraulic baling press.
The material is separated in to bright and decorated scrap before entering a fully automated bale handling system, where finished bales are stacked into a special ‘wooden pallet free’ bale stacking pattern. This pattern enables fork truck lifting voids, resulting in aluminium scrap to be transported for recycling without the need for costly wooden pallets, therefore increasing the revenue generated for recovered waste aluminium. The bale stacking pattern also ensures maximum vehicle payloads are achieved once the material is ready to leave the facility for re-melting.
Impact’s solutions at Ball Packaging’s sites also include oil mist extraction, spray lacquer dust and fume control, printer mist extraction as well as hot and cold ductwork systems to transport process waste to the RTO for treatment. These systems have been installed in many worldwide facilities with results that not only provide the customer with an improved revenue from the aluminium and steel recovered, but also providing a safe and comfortable working environment.
