"DEEP DIVE: Global Metal Packaging Market Outlook 2026 – 2031"

The latest METPACK 2026 report confirms a strong and steady outlook for the global metal packaging industry, valued at approximately $155bn and forecast to reach $185bn by 2031 with constant 2024 prices and currencies. Metal packaging represents around 13% of the total packaging market and continues to demonstrate resilience, supported by long-term fundamentals and sustainability advantages. The sector is built on two core materials—steel and aluminium—with aluminium accounting for around 40% of market value. Cans remain the leading sector, making up 58% of total metal packaging, with beverage cans continuing to lead growth due to efficiency, recyclability, and consumer convenience. The capital expenditure cycle in metal packaging saw a turning point in 2025 with equipment suppliers confirming order books being filled, there new operations announced. High recycling rates and a positive economic value from well-established circular systems, metal packaging is increasingly well positioned in a market shifting toward more sustainable solutions. Despite ongoing pressures from raw materials, energy costs, and geopolitical uncertainty, demand remains stable. Combined with renewed investment and innovation, the industry is set for continued, sustainable growth.

"Laser-welded stainless steel containers for demanding filling goods: PFAS-free, high-precision and sustainable packaging solutions"

Increasing demands on packaging for chemically demanding, reactive or high-value contents are presenting manufacturers with new challenges. Conventional tins made of tinplate or aluminium often contain internal coatings that may contain PFAS, which is subject to increasing regulation. Laser-welded stainless steel tins offer a high-performance, sustainable and future-proof alternative. Weil Technology presents an industrially established manufacturing process for thin-walled stainless steel cans that enables the highest precision, flexibility and shortest cycle times. State-of-the-art welding technology produces smooth, virtually invisible seams without additives, which are gas- and liquid-tight and ideal for hygiene-critical and high-quality applications.
