International Trade Fair for Metal Packaging: METPACK 2017 Sets New Standards for the Entire Sector

More than 300 Exhibitors Present Products and Innovations at Messe Essen

The world's leading fair for metal packaging METPACK will reach new dimensions from May 2 to 6, 2017: More than 300 exhibitors will present their products and innovations at Messe Essen - over 20 percent more than on the occasion of the past event. The range offered by the manufacturers will encompass sustainable and cost-efficient solutions for the manufacture, refinement, painting and recycling of metal packaging. Thus, the trade fair will show the entire value added chain in the sector. Because of the high demand, METPACK will occupy not only Halls 1 and 3 but also, for the first time, Hall 2. Thus, the international trade fair will continue its notable growth in the past years.

More than 80 percent of the exhibitors at METPACK will travel from abroad. Thus, it will be one of the most international trade fairs in Germany. The companies will originate from over 25 nations. Manufacturers from China, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the USA will be most strongly represented. The firms will encounter an absolutely international public: Three out of four visitors will come to Essen from abroad in order to gain an overview of the market. Thousands of decision makers and experts will make METPACK the most important sales platform in the sector.

Manufacturers Present Sustainable and Cost-Efficient Solutions

Numerous manufacturers from the market leader to the niche professional will show their products and fair innovations, including ArcelorMittal, Belvac Production Machinery, Biagosch & Brandau, Can Man, CMC-Kuhnke, KBA-MetalPrint, Lanico, Mall + Herlan, Soudronic, Stolle Machinery Company and thyssenkrupp Rasselstein. The range on offer will be formed, for example, by machines and facilities for the manufacture of cans, lids and bases, caps, tubes and vessels as well as drums and drum ends. Another main focal point will be formed by surface treatment equipment, painting and printing installations as well as drying ovens. Furthermore, the manufacturers will show, amongst other exhibits, can filling and closing installations as well as additional equipment for can and cap lines.

A lot of manufacturers are working on reducing the material: The tinplate used for the body, lid and base of the can is becoming ever thinner. For example, Lanico will, with the new Can Former CF 589, present a machine which processes body material down to a minimum metal sheet thickness of 0.13 millimetres. Thus, the Can Former CF 589 permits material savings of up to 30 percent in comparison with conventional machines. Another trend at the fair will be digitisation in the printing field: On the booth of KBA-MetalPrint, the first digital printing machine especially for utilisation in the metal sheet packaging industry will await the visitors. Amongst other objectives, MetalDecojet permits the cost-favourable production of short runs with a high printing quality.

METPACK Innovation Award - the Oscar in the Metal Packaging Sector

On the second day of the fair, Messe Essen will honour particularly pioneering innovations with the METPACK Innovation Award. The mark of distinction will be conferred on manufacturers of products which, to a particular extent, contribute to raising quality and reducing costs during the manufacture of metal packaging. The decision about the winners in Gold, Silver and Bronze will be taken by an international expert jury during the first day of the fair.

It will promote know-how transfer, provide innovation stimuli for the metal packaging sector and be a significant networking forum: the METPACK Conference in the Berlin Hall on the second day of the fair. At the event with an international and high-ranking cast, ten experts will, in a concentrated form, provide information about the latest research results and new fabrication technologies for metal packaging. Manufacturers, users and developers will use the conference in order to exchange opinions about market-relevant findings across borders.

International, Innovative and Sustainable - 25 Years of METPACK

Furthermore, exhibitors at and visitors to the fair will celebrate a special anniversary this year: 25 years of METPACK representatively stand for more than two decades of successful deals, innovations and contacts in the metal packaging sector. On this occasion, longstanding exhibitors will present trendsetting exhibits from the past years in a special area in Hall 2. In addition, a neighbouring café lounge with a trade press booth will invite the visitors to relaxed time-outs and reading.
